i put the disk in and it says 'confguring' that works then it says 'close' so i press close and nothing happens

You could try seeing if you have the updated Windows installer.

Is it the right version for the right Windows.

For example if its a XP version does it work with Vista.

Make sure your offline when you try and nothing else is running in the background. Also is you anti-virus stopping it?
Try inserting the disk, close all it's windows, then go to My Computer and right click the cd. Double click the setup program.
