None of the literature that came with the computer has anything remotely resembling this key. I did not get a disc for or with the application.
If you already have the software installed, go to http://belarc.com and download their free Advisor program. Run it on your computer and it will give you a detail listing of all the hardware, software, etc on your PC. It includes the serial number used to install any microsoft progducts currently on your computer.
Record the number for future reinstalls.
It should be on the package the software came in. I hope you saved it.

If it came with the computer and they didn't provide a disc, then odds are that you only have a trial version installed. Very few computers come with the full version of MS Office installed, since it adds several hundred dollars to the cost of the computer. If you have a receipt that shows you paid for the full version of MS Office, contact the manufacturer and get a disc and/or key for it.

There are many programs you can download that do what you need. The previous answer includes one. However be careful when trolling the net for information like that. I realize that your situation happens with many computers sold new today. The software is called OEM, or original equipment manufacturer. The catch with this is that it is only licensed for the one computer. Generally if you do a reinstall it will put itself back with that number already filled in , but if you just have the factory restore disk it was done at the factory. Here's the good and the bad. The good is the OEM software is CHEAP!!! There are also Student and Teacher versions for the same price. That really should be red and blinking. I just bought Vista Ultimate for all of my home and office computers. If I bought the retail edition it would cost me 399.00 a copy. It comes with a nice pretty black box and includes both 32 but and 64 bit versions of the software. The second link below explains what this is,and the best part! The OEM version which is the exact same program costs only 195.00!

Unless you specified otherwise when saving, the document/file will have been saved to the My Documents folder. Open My Documents, locate the file and right click down to delete. This will place it in the recycle bin. However, if you are sure you want to delete it, click on file icon with left button of mouse to select, then press Shift Delete to completely delete and bypass the recycle bin.

i presume u have a windows xp operating system, all you have to do is double click the zip file, give the correct path to unzip, go to the directory where you unzip the file, click on the setup file, follow the instructions... and i think you will find the microsoft office installed.

I think alot! 2007 is a great upgrade from 2003. I know that I have 2007 at home and I think its unreal what you can do with it now I have 2003 at work and its amazing to see how limited you are with things compared to 2007. You can get a free trial download of 2007 and try it out!

The best password are letters, numbers, and characters, and should be a minimum of 8 chars, and not use a system. This will prevent a lot of the brute force crackers that just use a dictionary, and common words/phrases people use like "IAMGOD".

Every time I try to type something in word or powerpoint, I get an error message stating that I can not do this command because the document is closed for editing.
Either the file is already opened by someone else, or they been password protected for editing, or your system crashed when last the documents were open so they are still tagged as being open. Try opening as a copy and then saving with a new filename.

open the document. once the first page is on the screen hit the printscreen button. open microsoft paint and click paste. then save it as .jpeg. repeat this step for all the pages in the document

The box that apears asks for a 25 digit product number located on cd case or certificate of authenticity. I don't recall having either. When I X out of this box, another apears asking for that number. After several atempts closing these boxes, they are are gone until the next start up, or I can work on top of them. This is annoying. How did you install it in the first place as you have had to put the key in when installing it or any MS product as the key number will usually be on the package the CD came in or on the CD itself? Do not use underscores, draw a line using the line tool in the drawing toolbar. (The drawing toolbar if not showing can be opened by right clicking your toolbars and clicking drawing. Click the line tool and draw a line where you want the underline to be. Hold down shift while dragging your mouse to make the line draw straight. You can reinstall Vista as often as you like on a single system, but you have already violated the Microsoft Office license by installing it on a second system - unless you removed it from your system first.
Boot from the Vista disc and do a Startup Repair. Then find out what is busting your system and stop doing it.
If Vista is on the same PC, no worries. Office will be fine, too

I have just reinstalled Vista and it activated online, no need for any phone calls to MS. Office 2003 was the same.
They show on screen but not when I print out. No use having a spreadsheet without gridlines to separate each entry!

Underneath that, put a check on "Gridlines".

Page set up, sheet, and tick gridlines. So much easier than borders unless you want outside borders thicker than inside.

It's not user friendly, crashes alot, mostly Outlook. Using the HELP will assist in locating sub menus and functions from previous Office releases. Best suggestion is roll back to your older version and wait for the soon to be released service pack from Microsoft, hopefully that will resolve many issues.

i use LaTeX as my word processor usually, but a couple of weeks ago i was working on a friends computer and i was forced to use Word. it was awful! it took me 10mins to type up a mathematical formula. whenever i would type something, the track thing would revert to the standard position and i would have to keep switching it back to add elements to the formula.
also, editing something? makes you want to shoot yourself in the foot.
best advice - if you're a math/science geek, get LaTeX/LyX, if you're everything other than that, get Open Office. you'll save on both money and frustration.

Openoffice.org is going to be your best option. You are not pirating software so its not against the law. It a free open source option that fully integrates with all Microsoft software. Meaning you can create a document or PowerPoint or spreadsheet with openoffice and open it with and Microsoft applications and vice versa. Its great software, its updated very often and its very easy to use.

Theres a well known package of office applications - including a word processing app - pretty similar to Office called OpenOffice.
OpenOffice can save to/load from many MS Office formats e.g. .Doc (Word), .Xls (Excel)
Alternatively you could try an Online word processor, for example Google Docs. These are more basic, but are generally still adequate for bashing out a letter etc. I think Yahoo may have one too...?

You must have it. Sorry. Try MS Office 2007. I'm using it and no problems yet.
I suggest contacting Microsoft support. Tell them that you are removing the software off the old machine and putting on the new machine. The should be able to give you a key that will work with your cd.
There are also shareware tools out there that will show you what your current key is. You can try these if you want.

Try the Gimp. It's free and you can edit just like photoshop.
try OpenOffice.org it is an open source program, I don't know if it will do what you want, but it does almost everything that Microsoft Office does and it's hard to beat the price. (free) If that doesn't work try GIMP it works like photoshop and it is also open source.

First off POP3 is a type of E-mail usually supplied by your ISP it is not web based mail. The information should be available from your ISP. As an example Comcast is my ISP and they gave me an E-mail account. My POP3 server is mail.comcast.com. In this case it鈥檚 also the path I mail out through so my SMTP server is also mail.comcast.com
Pop3 is the mail server that receives mail and SMTP is the server I send mail out through.
Yahoo did have popmail access a few years ago but I think thats long gon unless you become a paying yahoo mail customer.
I know that Windows Mail in Vista no longer supports HTTP web mail but older version of outlook might. Try adding an account and selecting HTTP instead of POP3.

under printing preferences there should be a box u can check for "print selected"

FYI, Word does not have it's own font list. It gets the available fonts from windows. When you get a new font, you install it through windows and it will show up in Word.

I have Microsoft Word (the latest edition) installed on my computer. Whenever i click on a windows word app eg: Powerpoint or Word. Windows installer always appears, i click cancel and the application starts up as normal anyway. So i know for certain it is installed, just why is it every time i start it up the windows installer comes up and how can i stop it doing this!
usually that happens when something is missing. a font or something, let it install and put in the disk when it asks and you shouldn't see that anymore.

the company I worked for was sold and we all lost our jobs. They sold off a lot of the equipment and I bought one of the newer computers. Now I want to change the software registration from the company to me.
You'd have to uninstall then reinstall the product.

But if you're concerned about the author trail on various documents like word files you can change this without reinstalling the software.
For the WORD doc that you'd like to change simply right-click the saved doc icon/file, go to properties and then select the Summary Tab. You can then update the information to reflect the author of your choice, etc.
Open Word, click on "Tools", then the "User Information" Tab. Now change your name.
Btw, it is a violation of the Microsoft EULA to transfer Windows or Office to another person - you must buy another copy according to their EULA and reinstall...just FYI.

You can download the microsoft word 2003 viewer for free from microsofts site but the actual editor will cost money. If you're a student though you can get a cheaper copy. If you decide to download an illegal copy from a torrent client make sure you have all your AV up to date and preferably re-image your computer (good practice anway)

If you used it at work then it can't be used on a second machine. You have to purchase a second license to use it at home. If you can't afford that, then you can try downloading OpenOffice. It's a free, open source office suite comparable to MS Office.

I apologise for telling you something which you probably already know but I think you are going to have trouble getting a code, since anyone who has the programme will already have used it. I can only offer the usual options, take it back to where you got it, make sure it is not in the obvious places, i.e. back of the envelope the disc came in or fallen down the back of the settee.

You're going to have to call guys over at Microsoft Support. Tell them what happened (same thing happened to me on more than one occasion). They're pretty good about it. Ask you what type of computer you have, where you bought the CD from, etc. Then they give you a new key.

In the file menu choose the import and export option...then you want to save your contacts as .pst file..... there's a wizard that takes you through it....
You could also cut/paste them to a folder then burn the files to a CD. This would allow you to import the ones you want back into Outlook later.

Effectively Outlook is a database program (like Access for instance). When you try to export your contacts it runs a query and extracts your contacts into another database object called a folder within Outlook. Effectively you have run a Make Table query that has placed the data withing Outlook.
You need to export the data out of Outlook into a comma separated values (csv) file. Follow the steps of the export wizard and select Windows csv file.

Export them to Excel, and than save to (burn) on CD Excel worksheet

Hi I am trying to start Microsoft Office Outlook and I am getting an error message telling me to quit outlook and any other mail applications and then use the inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe) but I am not sure what to do I am on vista and have tried using system restore and run on the program but neither has been successful can anybody help?
Do what the error message told you to do: run Scanpst.exe. That's the Inbox Repair Tool. You have a corrupt PST file (Personal STore, where your messages, contacts, calendar, etc. are stored) and it needs to be repaired.
try the ever safe solution: uninstall it and install it again. If it still doesn't work, I suggest you go to the Microsoft website and see if they have a solution. (You'd be surprised)

The fourth option down is the Save As Button, click it.

There is a "save as" option in Word for a couple of earlier versions of Word, but the best approach would be to save it in Rich Text Format (.RTF file extension) as that format has remained fairly constant over the years and should be able to be opened by most any earlier Word version.

Of course you can use your existing email addresses, that what its all about.
1) Install Outlook (pop in the CD, run Setup, answer the questions).
2) When you'll first start Outlook, create a new mail account. In your case, its either a POP3 or IMAP account. Get this information from your email provider.

Read your EULA(End Users License Agreement). It will specify what you want to know. Normally Microsoft office are intended for use on one computer, and one computer alone. Unless you purchase CALs (Client Access License) for more computers. These cost almost as much as a fresh copy of the software.
The problem with using the software on more than one computer is that you can only register Microsoft software so many times and if that limit is reached and your hard drive crashes... guess what, you must buy all over again. Don't insert it as a Footer or it will appear on each page. Place your cursor at the word to which you want a reference and from the Insert menu choose Footnote and click OK. This will place a number at reference point and the footnote will only be at the bottom of this page.
If you want this as a footer on all your pages, go to "view" on the toolbar and click on "headers and footers". Then if you dont want it on your first page, click "File", then "Page Setup", click the "Layout" tab, then about midway down the page under heading "headers and footers" put a check mark in "different first page".
un-select the check box that says something along the lines of "continue on all pages after this."

Just right click on a pic (jpg) then click on 'open with' then on 'choose program' then from there you should see a list of preferred programs for pictures then click in the small box in the bottom (always use the selected program to open this type of file) once you have selected the program and then click ok.

where can i find the drawing tool?
The drawing toolbar is context sensitive (as are a lot of things in Office 2007)
Click INSERT, click the SHAPES dropdown arrow, click NEW DRAWING CANVAS at the bottom.
Or, click INSERT, then SHAPES and select any shape from the dropdown menu (there's a lot to choose from).
The ribbon will change to the DRAWING TOOLS on top for the Format tab (context sensitive drawing toolbar). Henceforth, anytime you click on a drawing shape the DRAWING TOOLS will appear over the Format tab.
Obviously, the view--toolbars is for previous versions of Office. Office 2007 is different and need time to get used to.

Absolutely! The new MS office is awesome. It has some new features that the old office does not. It's also a lot more user friendly. Especially, if you use Excel. They have new features in all the programs that makes it easier to find things that you'd like to do with your spreadsheet, document, etc. It is more expensive but if you have the money to spare then I would say definetly invest in the better software! I am really glad that you want to motivate your skills but in my company if someone doens't have the execptional level on basic computer programs - there is no start the job. These programs have been around for 20 years now. I love the go and get it done - and if you check with any schools in your area - both high schools and college - most will have adult classes that you can take that you don't have to be enrolled in full time to get into.
For others out there, if you are are 17-20 yrs old person there is no reason why you should not be able to do intermediate level work in Word, Excel, and Access. At least be able to use the help file and post information on the internet so that someone across the BIG POND is able to look it up and make decisions within a few minutes.

You mean to then be able to carry the flash drive and use those applications on any computer? No. Almost every piece of software must be installed on the computer. Files are put in the windows directory, modifications to the registry are made, etc.
You cannot just copy these programs over from one computer to another. Its more complicated than just folders, there are registry keys that need to be written, file type associations, etc. You need an installer. I believe iTunes is a free download. But office you will need an installer and a cd key, because it is NOT free.

i have done up a catalog for my company in MS office publisher that is 9MB(zipped/compressed) and the only way i can get it to local print shops is thru a pdf file that is the only way they can open it. im not to good at this so if some one can help me ASAP i would appreciate it!!!!!1
don't bother with those online sites. You have two ways... you can go to file - print, and in the small window where it says choose printer you can choose adobe pdf, it'll save it as a pdf and you can send that file.
Or you should have an adobe pdf icon on the upper left somewhere below the file-edit- etc. menus... its the same as printing to pdf... go there and it'll work too.
Don't worry you aren't actually printing anything, once you click print it'll save it.

I have done this in the past by taking a screen shot of a window of an existing application where it shows all (new template of word??) and then opening that snapshot in mspaint (or other editor) and cutting the images i need.

i have a windows professional computer with microsoft office, but then i upgraded to small business free trial and after the trial expired, i couldnt use the program anymore. why is it like that, is there anyway i can get microsoft office (the original) one to work again? or is everything just a trial? isnt microsoft office included in professional versions?
No, MS Office is not bundled with XP Pro from Microsoft. You most likely purchased a machine from someone/place that already had Office installed.
My guess, based on what you've said, is either that when you installed the trial you somehow overwrote the orignal Office installation. Then the only way is to reinstall your orignal Office install.

Microsoft Office doesn't come with Windows at all, they are completely separate programs. If you have the original Office discs, you may want to uninstall Small Business and reinstall the original version.

EDIT : Office 2007 is great! Don't just toss it aside because formats won't work. If you want to make files work, just make sure they're not saved with a "x" at the end. Like .docx should be .doc.
Of course, Microsoft's new OOXML format is really better, but older versions of Office aren't supported yet.

Word 2007 can open Word 2003 documents. It can also save in a format compatible with Word 2003, you just need to pick it from the File Types menu in the Save As dialog rather then using the default.

Assuming that you have it installed, of course.
If it doesn't appear in your programs list with all the other Office tools, you may have to install it first.
Your version of MS Office may not have Powerpoint installed... If you don't have it try Open Office as a download to get a free program that is similar.
