I have microsoft office 07 and need to convert a file to an earlier version so that others can view certain files. I do not see a file option...

Click the Office button at the top left and click the arrow next to "Save As" then click "Word 97-2003 Document" this is also the same for excel, powerpoint, and a number of other office 2007 programs. Hope this helps :)

You need to look at the top left of the page. Where you see the logo. Click on the logo and you get a menu.

The fourth option down is the Save As Button, click it.

On the menu that pops up there will be several options.

Pick the one that is right for the person who you are sharing files with.

You can even save files in the PDF format.

Everyone should have Abobe Reader as part of their operating system from Windows me on up.
Its an option in the "save as" dialog box.
There is a "save as" option in Word for a couple of earlier versions of Word, but the best approach would be to save it in Rich Text Format (.RTF file extension) as that format has remained fairly constant over the years and should be able to be opened by most any earlier Word version.
Use the 'Office button'. It is the round Windows symbol in the upper left of the screen. When you have the document open, hit this button and you will see one of the options 'Save as...'

You can save as Office 97-2003 document. It will have the .doc extension instead of .docx.
CTRL+S

select .doc from the drop down menu
when you go to save it... Select save as, select the "Save as type" as Word 97-2003 document
